Lesson 47 : Vanness and Languages

ABC'S CHINESE
For someone like Vanness, who has grow up in the US, and has to act in a Mandarin based TV series, is a big ask. But he tried very hard...but of course, it is not without its funny moments.
Mao Liang: "Because Vanness came back from overseas and does not understand Chinese, he knew that he must work extra hard... When filming, he would write pinyin on his script to remember the pronounciations. But Vanness is a very naughty person, and likes to joke around. At the office, he would often write gross stuff on staff's desk such as "I love Vanness" etc..

At the Pepsi Charity Event in March, a reporter asked if they would film in dynasty serials.
Vanness said: "I want to but my Chinese is not very good."
Ken jokes: "You can act as someone from overseas."

During the press conference of Siemens Phone, Taozi was interviewing F3, but Jerry and Ken were all quiet as recent media reports were spreading bad reports about them, so they were not in a good mood. Only Vanness, who was returning to the US the next day, was very talkative and said something about being on a 'High'...

Jerry who had not said a word suddenly interrupted: "Oh you know what it means to be on a 'high' " (in chinese that is)
Vanness with an innocent look replied: "No..."
Everyone laughed, Taozi just went bonkers... Jerry and Ken said to each other: "Does he really not know?"
Then Ken seriously tried to explain using hand gestures. Taozi was laughing until she was stamping her feet. But Vanness still doesn't get it...
Then Taozi added: "No wonder you can be so happy..."
Vanness? Clueless!
Vanness continued: "It means... add hot water, make it hotter..."
F2 quickly stopped him: "If you don't get it... PLEASE don't try to...!!"
Ken couldn't stand it any longer: "Just go back to your America!!"

ABC'S CANTONESE
There's no surprise here, his Cantonese sounds like all ABC speakers... V
anness: "Hello big 'chickens', huo si NG Jian Hao." He was meant to say: "Hello Everyone, my name is Wu Jian Hao."

KOREAN LOVER
When asked how Vanness will communicate with his co-star, Vanness said there would be no problems, as he has many Korean friends in the US and knows the basic stuff, and with the interpretor around, there should be no problems at all.

Filming with the Korean actress, it seems that Vanness and her get along very well. His Korean is very impressive, able to speak fluently, pronouce clearly and greet the media all in Korean, and even make a song and dance out of it, winning the applause of the crowd.

Another contributor to his love for the language could be the fact that Vanness had a Korean girlfriend before...that could be why he's so knowledgeable in this field.

Class dismissed!
