Lesson 50 : Jerry's Idol

He views the whole idol concept as...
"Lots of people view us as idols but in fact what they mean is that we are just 'vases', ornaments. That's why I do not wish to be seens as an idol, I hope to produce quality products for people to see."

But whether he likes it or not, when Jerry stepped into the showbiz, his first connection with fame has been through an idol drama series - this is a fact. Maybe it is because of this, that all the people that Jerry admire are those that have transformed from idols to quality artists...something he wishes to achieve.

In one interview, Jerry said that his favourite female actress is Julia Roberts. The deepest impression she left on him was in the movie < >.
Jerry says: "She used to always be a 'vase' but she worked hard. We could see her transistion, she works hard but yet laughs so happily, very confident. I was a vase before and that's why I admire those artists who have succeeded through hard work."

Jerry said during a << Zheng Qing Shi Shu >> interview: "Suddenly, I felt very much like her (Julia Roberts) role in Erin Brockavich I try to do lots of things but when you just start...there's no way that people would accept you..."
Cai Kang Yong: "...because she was simply good looking...that's all people said about her."

The other female star Jerry admires is Maggie Cheung. He loves the movie < >, and has seen it 5-6 times. Everytime he watches it, it's a whole new experience. He feels that Maggie Cheung is also an ever- improving actress.

Male Star
Amongst the Hollywood stars, Jerry likes weirdo Johnny Depp. Jerry says: "I think he's really cool, has real character..."

Maybe it's because Jerry really wants to become a professional actor, he often would request that if possible, he would like to work with - Dai Li Ren.

Past Idols
When Mr. Yan was still Mr. Liao, during his TVBS modeling competition, he said that he liked Ma Jin Tao.

Worst Memory
When Jerry was filming LASH, he worked with Jackie Cheung. This was meant to be a memorable occasion but due to the media, it is now a worst memory event. The media wrote: "Bao Long teaches Jackie to act." What kind of rubbish is that?
Jerry says: "That was ridiculous...I mean I really admire him! He's like my idol. I always sing his songs at KTV. I respect him...and then the media comes up with that...it's offensive for him and for me. I feel that the media never sees my hard work and my effort but just write what they like..."

Idol's Motivation
After coming back from the army, Jerry was dumped by his long time girlfriend and this really affected him. When he was on Guang Ge's program, this gave Mr. Liao a lot of encouragement.
Jerry: "Guang Ge, I felt that after listening to your program, I was in someway influenced by it, especially during the late nights. When I feel lonely, I would listen to your program. It gives us a righteous feeling and motivates us young people to learn from the likes of yourself...."
Guang: "It's a mutual thing, when the motivation comes...then..."
Jerry: "I would you know, there's a magnetic effect between people. Some people when you just hear their voice, you like them...you don't necessarily have to see that person. But just what they say can have influence on you for a lifetime...that's how I feel anyway..."
Guang: "I think I know what you mean...that's why I feel that my job is very important and will work hard at it. Maybe, just maybe...I can give people some motivation to keep on going..."
Jerry: "You don't know how big a motivation you have given me.."

That's right! As fans, you don't know how great your influence has been on us. You keep us motivated...we don't ever intend to give you any pressure...how about you let that 'pressure' be your motivation to keep on going...and let's grow together!

Class dismissed!
