Lesson 54 : Jerry and the Love of Books

Do you know how much Jerry loves reading books?
In his small house, the thing that took up the most space was books. Before going on stage for concerts, he would be reading, when he was working behind the bar, he would be reading - English books that is!
When he was young, he didn't have many opportunities to study, so he feels he should make up for that now, hence he loves reading books. "I like to see things from all perspectives, hence I buy lots of books to read to find different ways to look at things."

He also likes to read documentary magazines: "Sometimes I think I'm in a bad situation but when you read about triumphs of people in even worse cases, you see how they pulled through and motivates you to go on...I also love seeing the pictures too."

Lots of books include articles by author Ling Qiu Nan: "I read one article by her, which was about her struggles in life. When I was reading it, I was in Australia and was in a good mood, because we were by the sea and there were lots of animals. The farm...so at that time I didn't say anything about the article, but it was indeed very well written...it made me think about lots of things..."

Here is a passage from Jiao Zi's << Counting the Days of Meteor Rain >>: "I read an article about him, it was about his character DMS. He mentioned that he missed being Ah Xu, the innocent past. Ah Xu said that when he read that article, it was five minutes before going on stage. His mood was like a Meteor - just shooting past, it was on a spur of the moment, which lead him to walk on stage and say to the 20,000 fans : 'I can finally talk to you without having my words distilled through the media.'"

Of course, we can't go by without mentioning Jerry's habit of reading fan's messages. Someone once searched hi bag and found all these printed messages: "My fans and friends would often send me articles they read or write it on the websites to share with me. I think it's great, so I take it around with me. If I can't figure out something, after reading it...it helps..."

It was out of a coincidence that people found Jerry also reads entertainment magazines, he actually goes and guys them to read about what they have written about him: "Some people believe what they read, like Hu Weekly, I mean...I don't hate them or anything. In actual fact, I quite admire it. Even though they take pictures without consent, they are brave enough to publish it, to back up what they write..."
